What are the pros and cons of solar energy? Solar energy is the power of the future and its use is rapidly growing. But is it really that efficient that is could be the answer to the energy crises? Solar energy by itself is not the answer; however it is a major player in the solution.
The pros of solar energy are many. Solar energy is a free resource given to use by the sun. That energy is converted several ways into power for you and I to use. The most common ways are solar thermal and photovoltaic. Solar thermal is using the sun’s thermal energy to heat air and water for power. Photovoltaic is the use of the sun energy to excite electron in solar cells and convert that to electricity. Another pro of solar energy is that once your equipment is paid for, all your energy is free. Solar energy is like an investment and it will continue to pay. Did you know that if you produce more power than you use, you will get paid for that power? One of the pros of solar energy is that it doesn’t harm the environment. Because it is natural produced there is no bad waste and side effects. This is why renewable resources are so great; they are free, efficient, reliable, and all natural. Some cons of solar energy are that it can be expensive to integrate. At least it was. The cost is coming down dramatically, but the best way is to build your own solar energy systems. Yes, it is true; you can build your very own solar energy system very affordably. Learn more here. Another con of solar energy is that it is not 100% efficient. Now I would not completely call this a con, because all sources of energy are not 100% efficient. Location is one of the biggest cons of solar energy. Clouds, trees, fog, and pollution can all affect your solar panels, as well as no power will be produced at night time. The best way to offset this is to have an alternative method of power and an excellent battery storage system. Now that you know the pros and cons of solar energy you can take the next step to being 100% reliable on renewable energy. Start by building a mini solar panel and use it to power your laptop, cell phone charger, TV, and other small accessories.
